A Battle of gods vs God
Each of the plagues was a direct challenge to the gods of Egypt, but the final judgment was the most terrifying. The Lord declared, “I will pass through the land of Egypt on that night, and I will strike all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and on all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgments: I am the Lord.” This was not merely a threat of divine power; it was a promise of profound grief and national despair. In every Egyptian home, a chilling certainty must have taken hold—a feeling of helplessness as their gods, once worshipped and trusted, proved powerless to protect their children. This climactic act was a strategic battle of gods versus God, showcasing the Lord’s ultimate victory, but for the Egyptians, it was the crushing sound of wailing, the final and most agonizing blow in a series of punishments that had already brought them to their knees
The story reveals a profound truth found in Ephesians 6:12:
For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Eph. 6:12
Just as the Lord challenged the gods of Egypt, He continues to challenge the “gods” of our modern lives. The idol of anxiety, the god of insecurity, the false comfort of fear of man, These are the enemies we face every day. And just as He fought for His people then, He is fighting for us now, offering a victory that is already won.
Our Role in the War
When we choose fear over faith, we aren’t just making a mistake; we are putting a crack in the foundation of our peace. We’re choosing to believe the lie that our circumstances are bigger than our God. In those moments, we’re giving a foothold to the enemy.
The Lord is constantly battling for our hearts and minds.
We are His soldiers in this war.
He gave the Israelites instructions as a general prepares His troops, and He does the same for us. Our weapons are not silver swords or metal shields, but the very truths of our Commander. God’s Word is our sword. Our faith is our shield.
I used to carry around thoughts so heavy they felt all consuming. Lies that whispered about my worth, my future, or my past. They were thoughts I wrestled with, day after day.
Then I experienced the power of the Word that dismantled entire pantheons of gods. I began taking those weighty thoughts to the Lord and asking Him, “What do You think about this?” I didn’t just pray for help; I prayed for His perspective.
He provided answers. Through scripture, a conversation with a friend, or a quiet whisper in my heart. One answer in particular, went to my core. It agreed with His Word and I believed it so deeply that the weight of a lie was lifted, the peace was restored.
Lord please keep us mindful that our victory and our protection don’t come from our own strength, but from the power of You and Your Word that fights our battles, demolishing the lies of the enemy and fills our hearts with Your peace. In Jesus’ name, amen
