“On that same night I will pass through Egypt and strike down every firstborn of both people and animals, and I will bring judgment on all the gods of Egypt. I am the LORD. Exodus 12:12b
As many times as I’ve likely read this passage through the years, this was the first time I noticed the Lord bringing judgement on all the gods in this passage.
For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Eph. 6:12
That’s really what it came down to. It wasn’t between Pharaoh and Moses or Pharaoh and the Lord. It was between the Lord and all the gods. In their choice to worship about 80 false gods, the Egyptians experienced horrific devastation, but not without a LOT of warning.
After nine horrible plagues and continued opposition the LORD would now take the life of every first-born of Egypt and show His power against the gods.
The Lord is constantly battling on our behalf. Constantly protecting us.
Each time we dwell outside of our Lord’s truths we risk grieving our Lord, we risk our own peace, damaging earthly relationships and adding to the battle He is already waging on our behalf 24/7.
We dwell outside His truths when we receive circumstances as bigger than the Lord’s promises of peace and power and love. When we (in our humanness) choose not to believe Jesus (our loved one) about any given issue and give in to selfishness, insecurity, fear of man, anxiety, or any other number of things, we are choosing disobedience. I don’t believe we necessarily grasp that concept, are purposeful in it, or even necessarily want to make those choices.
Thankfully the Lord often uses one or more members in the body of Christ to help support us through those hard times and speak truths into our lives, pointing us to Jesus. The power of His name and word alone offer victory. But He is infinitely creative in how He reaches us and as His children, He is battling for our hearts and minds daily.
Have you ever taken time to write scriptures that are pertinent to an area of your heart in need of God’s truths? I have chosen to meditate on scriptures about the Lord’s faithfulness and I have friends who have chosen to seek the Lord about His love for them.
Over the years I’ve discovered that when I ask the Lord His thoughts about something, He inevitably provides an answer in one form or another. He also provides a sense of awareness that He truly is the source of that answer. As confirmation, it lines up, or agrees with His word. And the thoughts that have been so weighty have been torn down and demolished, leaving me at peace in that area.
Lord please keep us mindful of the source of our victory and protection. In Jesus’ name, amen.
